Race of Hope 2009 Race of Hope 2009

History does repeat itself. Well, at least in weather. Basically the same weather started this event as last years. A night of rain!!!!! After setting the course all day Friday in 95 degrees and 90% humidity, we were ready to get a cold shower and a soft bed. BUT, we had a hot, humid thunderstorm filled night in a tent at race headquarters. So after about two hours of sleep, we began morning prep for the day. The first volunteered showed up right on time. (Thanks to Chris and wife Judy for watching the bike transition., you guys saved the day!!) The second volunteer did not show and the third canceled Thur. This left us managing the course shorthanded. Yes, Chuck and Tony moved boats until 3pm. The picture taking of multiple creek and swamp crossings had to be sacrificed. See details for more...

Chalahgawatha Green Corn Moon ROGAINE 2009 Chalahgawatha Green Corn Moon ROGAINE 2009

Full moon in southern Ohio on a warm summer night, Oh yea! We finally got the weather right! NO Rain, it's a first for our events. As a gentle breeze blows in, the roagainers take off searching for the 20 CP's placed in The Great Seal State Park. Team BUGS won the $40 drawing at the start line, while everyone else had to earn awards by navigating for six hours. 33 teams worked hard to win a pair of North Face shoes.

OASCR Results OASCR Results

The first running of the OASCR was brutal!!! This event began with bike and boat drops at 6:30 am in the dark. Racers then gathered at the shelter in Scioto Trail to prep for the grueling 12 hours (some less) adventure race in the hills of southern Ohio. We gathered racers at the start line and answered last minute questions. But they did not know about the mystery start. They were loaded on a bus to be transported to the start line in Chillicothe. They all assumed the start was at the boat drop, WRONG. We dropped them one mile from the boat drop and they had to figure out how to get there. So off they go!!

SUNSHINE.....SUNSHINE..........SUNSHINE......... It's about time we got the good weather!! Dry, warm and just perfect!!! Rogainer's began showing up early to get started on an awesome journey on an awesome day. Maps were handed out at sharply 9:30 am and off to picnic table, car hoods, blacktop or wherever course planning was underway for the second Sleepy Hollow ROGAINE. Everyone was able to change clothes, plan courses and socialize under a bright, DRY sky. This years course again encompassed the entire Scioto Trail Forest. Fireroads, trails, logging roads and bushwacking are all fair in our adventure filled ROGAINE.
